THE WRITERS Eleanor Hooker, Nathanael O’Reilly, and Anne Casey, will read from their work at the Over The Edge Writers’ Gathering, in The Kitchen Café of the Galway City Museum on Friday June 29 at 8pm.

VIETNAM WAR veteran Jack Grady will be among the poets reading at the Over The Edge Writers’ Gathering, which also includes award-winning Australian poet Joel Deane, and Galway’s Sighle Meehan.

THERE IS a school of thought popular among middle-brow critics of both genders, who tend to prevail in journals such as Poetry Ireland Review, and in the literary pages of formerly important newspapers, that poetry should avoid two particular ailments.

A slam poetry competition will take place in Thoor Ballylee, the former home of WB Yeats on Saturday October 15, and performance poets are being invited to apply for one of 10 places at the event. This is the first competition of its kind to be held at the tower house.
